Buy a Fish Not a Tank

if you are thinking about adding a pet to your home for yourself or a family member why not start with a fish.

There are tetra and angel fish which live in fresh water while others like clown fish thrive in salt water. If getting a fish tank is a bit too much for what you have in mind then i have a simple solution for you.

Although we tend to see many goldfish in a bowl, this is really not the healthiest for the goldfish. These fish can live to be forty years old. No they will not survive in a bowl thus they will need filtration in a tank. To much ammonia accumulates in the bowl thus ending the goldfish life.

However there is a fish that can live in a bowl and they are called Beta fish. In this family as is such in many animals too the male beta fish are the attractive ones. These fish are also known as fighting fish therefore having two males housing a bowl one or both will die.

While at the pet store there will be all different types of beta fish in an extremely small plastic container. What you may consider is to purchase a medium sized vase. This will give the sole beta room to swim around in.

The water in the vase should be changed twice a week and they require little food. Betas can eat dried shrimp or beta food which is available at the pet stores too.

make sure that the beta fish is kept away from drafty areas and do not treat the fish as a plant. What i mean is do not let it sit in a sunny window, hence making the water too warm for the fish. The water should always be room temperature. Therefore in the winter change the water to a luke warm temperature not icy cold for this may shock the fish thus killing them.

Beta fish are very beautiful and it is okay to mix male with female or female to a female. Never male to male these fish are too aggressive. Nonetheless, i opt for one beta fish and enjoy it quite a deal.

So if you are thinking about buying a fish as a pet without the tank and all the other requirements why not start with a beautiful beta!!
